This practical one-day programme provides employees and supervisors with a clear understanding of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems, their purpose, and their role in controlling hazardous substances in the workplace.
The course focuses on practical awareness — enabling participants to operate LEV systems correctly, recognise early signs of poor performance, and understand their responsibilities under COSHH Regulations.

- Health hazards from dusts, fumes, mists, vapours and gases
- Employer and employee responsibilities under COSHH
- The hierarchy of control measures
- Core components of an LEV system (hood, ductwork, air cleaner, fan, discharge)
- How LEV captures contaminants at source
- Common causes of reduced effectiveness
- User checks and maintenance awareness
- Understanding the purpose of Thorough Examination & Testing (TExT)
- Safe working practices when using LEV-controlled processes
Practical Demonstration
Where possible, the programme includes a practical walkthrough of the workplace LEV systems in operation.
This may include airflow visualisation demonstrations and guidance on what to look for during routine use.
Assessment & Certification
The day concludes with a short knowledge check and group discussion to reinforce key learning points.
Participants receive an OXYL8 Certificate of Attendance.
