Professional Standards (Competency) Register for LEV

The new Competency Register for Occupational Hygiene and LEV Specialists is soon to be launched via BOHS.

The Register – a Professional Standards Register (PSR) is controlled by the Professional Standards Agency (PSA) who report direct to Parliament.

The Register is likely to be available from the end of Nov/early Dec and for LEV Specialists we understand that those who have CoC(Control) will automatically be eligible for inclusion.

The advance information we have is that in early 2024 the PSR will be developed to allow inclusion of those LEV Specialists who have started on the route to CoC(Control); eg by having completed at least some of the P600 series of BOHS LEV Courses.  It’s early days but those included as working towards CoC(Control) may have “limited” or “supervised” notations against their entry.  More will become clear in the New Year.

This PSR is incredibly important for the LEV industry and in time it may well become accepted as the equivalent of GasSafe for Gas Engineers.  Time will tell.

IMPORTANCE?

What is certain is that HSE will likely use the Register to check on declared competencies and – importantly as the Register is a public and free to access document – it will also be used by Client companies seeking to engage the services of competent LEV Specialists.
